Creative Product Solutions For Annoying Problems in the Backcountry

BROAD SKY

In the last twenty years I’ve spent time nearly every week in the mountains. And I've learned they have an unmatched way of testing our mettle and revealing our true capabilities. As humans I think we are constantly asking ourselves if we are capable enough, if we can overcome the challenges, if we have what it takes to meet our goals, or if we can accomplish our mission.

I'll never forget my first solo elk harvest ...

"I have a Sling Stop for myself and got one for my daughter. It was so great to have the rifles stay shouldered when we had to work our way through some slippery snowy terrain during her cow hunt in Nov. "

  • Vented Call Case

"So good! Normally my calls end up in my dirty pocket or bino harness, but now they drop into the case, air out, and stay together until the next hunt. Love it!"

  • Do I really need a stove adapter, isn't it just another thing to pack?

You've worked hard to get to your backcountry camp. You've put in the miles and you've done what most people haven't, and won't. Why cook like everyone else, you've got the tripod and you have the stove - use them together and treat your back and yourself to a comfortable cooking experience. When I'm famished at the end of a huge approach, I want to set the stove up and let my meal simmer or coffee boil while I'm inflating a sleeping pad or changing out of boots. The stability of the tripod and the elevated stove is a game-changer!

  • What's wrong with keeping my calls in my pocket?

Your knife has a sheath, your binos have a harness, and your camera has a padded hard case. All your gear deserves a home and a way to stay protected to get the most life out of it. Random stuff ends up in pockets, and much of it isn't clean. You don't need that in your mouth, and you don't need to search through every pocket at 5am to try and find that one call the bull is responding too. Keep your calls in the Call Case at the end of the hunt. Clean, organized, and aired out. Get one for your hunting partner too.

  • Does the Sling Stop really work?

The sling stop is fantastic. We often run our weapons in a harness or sling on the approach, or during the long haul up to elevation. Once there, and especially when you have a trophy buck in sight, we want our weapon accessible and ready to deploy and put into service. But, often we need to scramble another 100yds, get through a patch of timber or scramble over a rock pile. In those moments the sling often wants to jump-ship and send your precious hunting partner toppling onto the ground below. The Sling-Stop prevents that from happening in many cases, freeing up a hand that needs to grab a branch, root, or binos. It's light, stays out of the way, so easy to intall, and does the job. Get one for each pack in your arsenal.
